Diane Kennedy
Center Director |
Diane received her MS in health professions education from the Medical University of South Carolina and her BS in medical technology from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She has been employed with Lowcountry AHEC since 1997. Previously she was the associate director and has worked in many areas including continuing education, health professions student coordination, Deans' Rural Clerkship, and SCRIPT. Her previous experience includes 15 years as a Medical Technologist and Laboratory Manager as well as 4 years teaching at Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC. Diane is responsible for direction of Lowcountry AHEC programs and management of personnel and finance. |

Ashley Breland
Finance Assistant |
Ashley has been at Lowcountry AHEC since May 1997. She is the finance assistant. Her duties includes payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable. Ashley works with insurance agents, auditors and accountants to make sure finances are running smoothly. She also assists with the SCRIPT program and other projects as needed at Lowcountry AHEC. |

Kelly Wynn

| Kelly Wynn began working at Lowcountry AHEC in June 2007. Previously, she worked at Edisto Pediatrics as a medical office specialist. She, her husband, and 2 children moved to South Carolina in 2004 from Florida. While living in Florida, Kelly worked for a medical supply company as a data management specialist. Her duties include reception, data management of the South Carolina AHEC database, assisting CE, HPS and HCP coordinators and other job related duties. |

Barbara Burden
Disaster Preparedness and Response Coordinator

Barbara Burden is a licensed Medical Technologist, and Clinical Laboratory Scientist (National Certification Agency for Laboratory Personnel). She has worked many years as a Medical Technologist and Instructor in hospitals and private laboratories. She spent three years working at the University of Hawaii in lung cancer research. She is also a Licensed Professional counselor and a National Certified Counselor working in psychiatric hospitals and in private practice. Barbara is responsible for coordination of the Bioterrorism Education and Training grant activities for Lowcountry AHEC. |

Ms. Stephens is one of two health professions student coordinators at Lowcountry AHEC. In that role she coordinates the clinical rotations of multiple disciplines of health professions students. She overseas student clinical placements, housing placements, and preceptor assignments. In addition, she assists students with community-focused health promotion projects. She also works with the South Carolina Rural Interdisciplinary Program of Training (SCRIPT) at Lowcountry AHEC. Ms. Stephens is a health educator and for the last 6 years she has worked for Low Country Health Care Systems, Inc. in Fairfax, South Carolina. |

Deborah S. Anderson
Continuing Education Coordinator |
Ms. Anderson has worked in the field of health care and education for over 9 years. During that time she has coordinated continuing medical education (CME) for residents and medical staff, coordinated seminars for hospital staff, and taught life skills and team building to college students. Her duties at Lowcountry AHEC include: conduct needs assessment as part of the LC AHEC continuing education team; assess, plan, implement, and evaluate CE nursing and allied health programs; identify nursing continuing education event resources to include instructors, venue sites, etc. |

Emily Edwards, RN, BSN joined the Lowcountry AHEC team on May 14, 2007. She previously worked as a pediatric nurse for the past 12 years in various healthcare settings. She, her husband and son moved from Anderson, South Carolina to the Lowcountry in December of 2003. Emily is one of the Continuing Education Program Coordinators for Lowcountry AHEC. In this role, she assesses continuing educations needs, plans appropriate programs based on needs, and implements those programs. |

Ann Graef

Ann has worked for Lowcountry AHEC since September 1980. This AHEC knowledge and experience allows Ann to be the “go to” person for everyone here. Over the years she has held many positions. She is the coordinator for the Training Center, which offers American Heart Association courses for health professionals in the 12 county area; she serves as the contact person for those who need BLS, ACLS, or PALS courses. She also assists with continuing education programming, and she is the DPRT program assistant for Education and Training Grant activities and numerous special projects. |

Tavy Smalls
Health Careers Program Coordinator |
LaTavish D. Smalls is the Health Careers Program Coordinator for Lowcountry AHEC. He prefers to be referred to by his nickname, Tavy. He is a graduate of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. He graduated with a degree in Health and Wellness in 2000 and was a four year letterman in baseball. From there, he went on to work for the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), where he was a Health Educator for one and a half years. Upon leaving DHEC, he accepted his current position at Lowcountry AHEC. As the Health Career Program Coordinator, Tavy is responsible for providing activities, programs, and other sessions for middle school, high school, and undergraduate minorities who are interested in healthcare professions. |

Emily received a BS in psychology from the College of Charleston in 1993 and a MSW from The University of South Carolina in 1995. Prior to AHEC, she worked 5 years at Colleton Medical Center as a social worker. She has been employed with Lowcountry AHEC since July 2000. She is responsible for the placement of students, student housing, student visits, and community orientation. She coordinates community focus health promotion activities for SCRIPT and FM/Rural Clerkship students. |
