Preceptors and Clinical Sites

Lowcountry AHEC has a 15 year history of working with health profession students in South Carolina. Since 1991, the student coordinators have been dedicated to providing quality learning experiences for our students. Lowcountry AHEC has approximately 135 active clinical sites and greater than 300 preceptors.

Lowcountry AHEC Student Housing

Lowcountry AHEC provides housing to health professions students placed in the Lowcountry AHEC service area. Lowcountry AHEC has 2 student apartments serving 8 of our 12 counties. Student housing is located in Bamberg and Beaufort.

The Bamberg apartment serves Bamberg County, Barnwell County (approximately 30 minutes to Barnwell clinical sites), Allendale County (approximately 30 minutes to Allendale/Fairfax clinical sites), Hampton County (approximately 40 minutes to Hampton/Varnville clinical sites), Colleton County (approximately 45 minutes to Walterboro clinical sites), and Orangeburg County (approximately 25 minutes to Orangeburg clinical sites).

The Beaufort apartment serves Beaufort County and Jasper County (approximately 45 minutes to the clinical sites in Ridgeland/Hardeeville clinical sites). Also, during the summer, LCAHEC provides housing in Walterboro to students participating in the SCRIPT program.

The majority of students utilizing LCAHEC housing are Medicine and PA. Though the medical students are the only students participating in community projects, interdisciplinary learning occurs serendipitously within the housing.
